The Ultimate Road Trip Guide For Movie Lovers!

There is something about movies that draws us in. The glitz and glamor of the silver screen has a powerful hold over us. Whether it’s the latest action blockbuster or an emotional slice of life drama. Movies have become such a huge part of our modern culture and have shaped the entertainment industry into what it is today.

But if you’re anything like me then your love for movies doesn’t just end when the credits roll. You want to be immersed in it all. The memorabilia. The behind the scenes snippets and celebrity news. But the most amazing experience is getting to stand in the actual locations used in our favorite movies.

If you’re looking for your next holiday idea then this might just be the right guide for you. I have designed a road trip that will take you through some of the most memorable locations in cinema history! So you too can feel like a part of the magic of cinema.

Hollywood, California

There is no better place to start your movie road trip than in the home of cinema itself. Hollywood! The beating heart of the entertainment industry. Everywhere you go you will see locations from cinematic masterpieces. See where Julia Roberts made her home in Pretty Woman. Visit the same iconic landmarks seen in Sunset Boulevard.

We then recommend heading down to Los Angeles to head onto Route 66. Which will play a big part in your journey.

Viva Las Vegas!

The next stop on your trip should be to the jewel of the Mojave. Vegas! No city can quite compare to the spectacle provided by Vegas. And many movies have used it as a backdrop. Visit the casinos that were targeted by the criminal crew of Ocean’s 11. Recreate some of the more chaotic moments from The Hangover. Or just marvel at all of the beautiful locations you’ll undoubtedly recognise from the silver screen.

Route 66 doesn’t directly pass through Vegas. So you will need to take a detour when you reach Arizona. The route to Vegas is notoriously dusty. So make sure you are prepared with weather appropriate clothes. At night a car cover can help protect your vehicle from more serious weather conditions like dust storms.

Route 66

We should take some time to mention that Route 66 itself has played a huge part in cinematic history. In fact it was the famous 1940’s movie Grapes Of Wrath that gave Route 66 its nickname ‘Mother Road.’

As you proceed along Route 66 you will be treated to a number of different attractions, both movie related and otherwise. If you get the chance try to stop off at Roy’s Motel And Cafe. Which has been featured in a number of movies over the years including Southbound, The Hitcher, and Beneath The Dark,

New Mexico

Once you have ventured back onto Route 66 we recommend heading towards New Mexico. A state with a rich movie history for you to explore. The Bonanza Creek Ranch is one of the most famous movie locations in cinema history. Having appeared in a number of titles including Django Unchained, Young Guns, and A Million Ways to Die in the West. You do have to book a tour to visit the ranch. But it is well worth it.

TV lovers also are spoiled for choice in New Mexico. A lot of the locations seen within the show Breaking Bad can be visited. You can even get your car washed at the location used within the show. House Of Cards also filmed a lot of their third season in New Mexico.

We’re Not In Kansas Anymore!

Perhaps one of the most famous quotes in cinema history. Famously spoken by Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz. The movie was such a landmark event for Kansas that they even renamed one of their roads to be ‘The Road To Oz.’

You should definitely visit the Wizard Of Oz museum while you are in Kansas. But there are plenty of other movie attractions to see beyond the realm of Oz. The Gordon Parks Museum and Center for Culture is a must see for anyone with a love for the history of Cinema. The museum pays tribute to one of the first black artists to make a name for themselves in Hollywood.

New York City

At this point we would recommend veering off Route 66 and making your way towards the Big Apple. New York City is one of the most iconic cities on the planet. And that reputation has translated onto the silver screen time and time again.

You can’t move in New York without coming across a famous filming location. Times square, the Empire State Building, 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Hundreds of movies and TV shows have used this city as a focal point. And it really is the best place to end your movie road trip!

Behind The Screen: What Influencers Don't Show You

If I had to pick one word that defines our current generation it would be Influencer. You will have undoubtedly seen this word all over the place. The word itself isn’t a new one. History has seen its fair share of influential people who are worthy of the title. But these days the term has taken on a new meaning.

The rise of social media has shifted the idea of what an influencer is. Previously the title would be reserved for someone of great renown who shifted the social norms of society in a huge way. And, to a degree, modern influencers still do set trends and change people’s views. But on a much smaller scale. A modern influencer is simply someone who has obtained a considerable following on social media.

Anyone can become an influencer these days. Our screens are constantly filled with pictures and videos of different influencers. And it would be easy to think that they live idyllic lives. But, as we know, social media only ever provides a glimpse into someone else’s lives. So what is happening behind the screen that influencers don’t show you?

The Business Of Being An Influencer

Being an influencer has become more of a career than a social position. And, like any career, it requires a lot of hard work. It is all too easy to forget that, behind every video and picture, is a lot of planning and technical editing going on.

Influencers have to work hard to create content that will keep their audience engaged while also bringing in new followers. For every video you see an influencer post you can be sure that 80% of the work they put into it happened behind the scenes.

Influencers make a lot of their money through sponsorship deals. Companies pay them to feature their products in their content. But acquiring these deals takes a lot of networking and negotiation. Which is why most influencers will use an agency.

Influencer Marketing

Influencer agencies also help content creators with their marketing. You might be surprised to hear that influencers need to do marketing. But, like any business, they depend on their ability to reach a wider audience and bring in new followers.

Agencies like upvote.shop are a prime example of the work influencers have done behind the scenes. Alongside promoting their pages, this agency can also directly boost their follower count on a number of different platforms. The advantage of this is that it keeps their page showing up in the ‘For You’ section of different social media sites.

The Real Influencer

As we said earlier on, a lot of what we see on social media is fake. And this is vitally important to remember. About 90% of the content you see online has been carefully curated and edited to give off a certain impression. Influencers make their money off brand deals. And brands want their products to be associated with amazing people.

So the main thing influencers often don’t show you is their true self. And to a degree this is how it should be. You may have heard of the term parasocial relationships. This is a one-sided relationship where one person puts in all of the emotional investment. Meanwhile the other party is unaware of their existence.

This is the relationship that influencers have with 90% of their followers. They will never meet or interact with them in any meaningful way. Unfortunately some people become too obsessed with an influencer they like. And this can lead to dangerous behaviors such as stalking.

This isn’t a new occurrence by any means. As long as celebrities have existed we have seen the dangers of parasocial relationships. But the digital age has made it all too easy for people to dig up information about influencers. Which is why a lot of influencers make the conscious choice to hide their real selves from the camera.

The Cost

We are currently living in the golden age of technology. Our smartphones are more powerful than the computers used to send man to the Moon. Virtual reality is no longer just for the realms of science fiction. And we have access to the entire wealth of human knowledge from the comfort of our bedrooms thanks to the internet.

As technology advances so too does the quality of content being produced by influencers. A lot of influencers produce most of their content with their phones. But, to produce real high quality content, they require a lot of additional resources. Lights. Editing software. Accessories. A production team.

In short, it isn’t a cheap endeavor for them at all. And this is one of the main reasons why a lot of new influencers don’t succeed. To make it as an influencer you have to invest, not only a lot of time, but money as well.

Set Building For TV: Creating The Ultimate Sitcom Home

Over the past few years, many people have complained about the overuse of CGI assets in TV shows and movies. The reality is that many companies use this as a cost-cutting maneuver since constructing sets can be quite expensive and time-consuming. For many long-running shows, having a physical set is the best way to maintain continuity while saving money. So, let’s look at what it takes to build the ultimate sitcom and what needs to be taken seriously when designing a set that is both long-lasting and iconic in the eyes of the viewers.

Relatability

Do you want when designing and creating a set for a sitcom the most important thing to keep in mind is that you aren’t creating the home of an average person so including things that make it relatable and realistic is very important. Mind you this doesn’t mean that you can’t include some fancy details like an elegant and affordable marble slabs countertop or some fancy appliances. It’s all about balance and creating a home that feels both lived in and designed by someone who lives in it. Viewers need to be able to see sitcom sets and feel like they could happen in their kitchens or their living rooms. This is why some of the most famous sitcoms of all time happened in the family home set.

Narrative language

When you design a set as the home of a character it’s important to take into account that while yes, it is the representation of a real home it is also a character marker. What this means is that the environment in which your characters evolve needs to also represent your characters and their current states. This goes further than making these spaces messy if your character is in a bad mood, it also goes in the direction that your set is also an extension of your characters. Having things that are important for your characters or that tell viewers things about your characters is very important. For example, if one of your characters is reckless and outdoorsy filling the environment with things that relate to his extreme sports tastes can be a great way to inform your viewers without telling them directly that your character is into extreme sports.

Cost

One thing that’s important to take into account is that if you are preparing to build a set for a sitcom it will cost you a lot of money. But as we talked earlier about the use of CGI and things like that it is not something that has crept into the sitcom space because usually, it isn’t more cost-effective to create a set that you will reuse day in and day out than to use any sort of special effect that is extremely expensive in the long run if you use it every episode. When we talk about sitcoms one of the biggest draws for studios to produce them is that they are usually pretty cheap to produce episode or episode. This means that if you create a show that is both popular and extremely cheap you can make a lot of profit long term by renewing season after season. This is why for example when you think of sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory it’s no wonder that they are massive successes both in the viewer size but also in these studios’ eyes.

Iconic Status

If you combine the relatability ending narrative language of your show in your set, you will be able to create a Saturday both instantly recognizable to fans and instantly recognizable without your characters being inside of it. This is the true iconic status of a sitcom set. This is why implementing story beats inside of your set is very important. A set like a character needs to evolve along with the story and the characters so that viewers can see their favorite story in their favorite characters and leave an impact on the environment in which they live. So at the end of the day when you create a set you are not only building it you are creating something that is an integral part of your narrative storytelling but also your show’s whole identity. This is what creating your set is all about.

Funding Your Hobbies: Our Tips To Improve Your Income

There are few greater pleasures than spending time diving into your hobbies. Whatever they may be. The desire to create and explore is part of being human. Finding joy in the process and reveling in the satisfaction of the finished product.

Sadly though we can’t ignore the realities of our world. We have to work to provide for ourselves. And, often, to fund our hobbies. There are only a few hobbies in the world that can be done completely for free. And even those can be improved with various accessories or equipment.

Times are tough out there for everyone. South Korea and many other nations are facing a cost of living crisis. But that doesn’t mean you have to cut back on your hobbies. Today we are going to give you a few tips on how to improve your income to better fund your passions.

Monetize Your Passions

The best and most obvious answer is to try monetizing your hobbies. Nearly every passtime can be turned into a business in some form. Particularly if you are creating works of art. And, thanks to the advent of the internet and the boom of social media, it is now easier than ever before to monetize your hobbies.

Let’s look at art for example. Websites like Patreon and Ko-Fi allow you to bring in donations from your fans to subsidize your artistic endeavors. But, to do this, you will first need to build a name for yourself. Instagram and TikTok are great avenues for this. Start uploading your work online and try to maintain a consistent upload schedule. Once you have built up a bigger following you can start advertising your Patreon.

If your hobby is more physical in nature, such as working out, running, or some form of gymnastics, you could offer your services as a trainer. Many beginners will often look for cheaper personal trainers who are more specialized. And there are numerous apps here in South Korea that allow you to offer your services without need for an agency.

Get A Part-Time Job

One of the most effective ways to bring in a bit of extra income is to get a part-time job. Here in South Korea there are ample night part-time jobs going in various entertainment venues, restaurants, and bars. We do recommend using a job finding platform like Bubblealba rather than applying directly. When you find a night part-time job with Bubblealba you can pre-upload your working availability and switch between venues with ease.

Part-time jobs are also a great chance for networking. If you are in a creative field you could look at getting a part-time job in a gallery or karaoke bar. Or, if you’re into a more active hobby, you could get a part-time job at a gym. You will meet a lot of like minded people who can help you improve your skills and potentially provide new career opportunities.

Cryptocurrency

One of the best ways to earn a bit more money is to start investing in cryptocurrency. If you don’t know, cryptocurrency is a completely digital form of currency that is completely decentralized. Meaning no governing body has control over it. The value of a cryptocurrency is determined by the people. Crypto is unique in that each currency has a finite amount of coins or tokens that will ever exist. This stops the value from being artificially inflated.

Investing in crypto is far easier than investing in stocks and shares. There are numerous apps, Like Crypto.com, that make the whole process safe and easy. These apps also provide a lot of education regarding how crypto works and how to better invest your money.

We recommend starting out with a small investment. Maybe 17k won to begin with. Examine how well your investment does over a week and, if it has gone up, sell it and then reinvest in another coin or wait until that same coin has gone down again. This will help you get a better understanding of the whole process.

The important thing to note is you should never invest more than you can afford. And to always try to sell for more than you bought. Chances are your crypto will go down in value at different points throughout the year. The important thing is to not panic and hold onto it. It will stabilize and go up again with time.

Sell Your Old Clothes

One of the best ways to earn a bit of extra money. The second hand clothing market is booming right now. Primarily due to people being exhausted with fast fashion and its environmental impact. Websites like Vinted are a great platform to sell your old outfits on.

Shoes such as sneakers are particularly popular at the moment. A lot of sneaker collectors are often hunting rare editions. And you never know what rare treasures you might have sitting about in your wardrobe.

Movie Scenery: A Look At The Business Of Building Film Sets

Now more than ever it has become much easier to watch movies at will. Thanks to streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix we have not only seen a lot of older movies find their way to these platforms but also these platforms have put in the money to create new franchises and new movies. This was of course the delight of many people but there has been a lot of discourse online about the use of special effects and the lack of practical effects. When discussing practical effects many people talk about blood squibs for example. Still, one of the bigger parts of special effects that have changed a lot over the past decade is the amount of green cream used instead of filming on location or creating sets. While many people say that creating sets is too much trouble or too expensive many of them aren’t aware of what goes into building those sets. So, let’s take a deeper look at what goes into the business of building film sets and creating the movie magic that often goes unseen behind the scenes.

For many people, it might seem silly to have to build a set to film inside of a house or inside of an apartment. The reality though is that while it may be adequate for smaller-budget films to film inside buildings often, it is easier for bigger-budget films to create an old apartment set from scratch since it allows you to light and film from every angle you wish. This is why often you might not even realize that your favorite show or your favorite movie is not filmed on location. This is why when they create sets, they often will deal with architects as well as set designers to be able to fully recreate to scale the interior of a building they’ve chosen to be the physical representation of the location they will be in. This is often done so that you can have the ideal space without having to displace the people who are living or working there. If you ever need to film outside the building, you can simply put some slight window dressing on the building itself to make it appear as it should for the show or movie and have your location.

When we talk about said building itself It’s important to understand from this that we are talking about actual construction. There is a lot of work from specialists like carpenters who are involved in the actual physical building of these sets. While most sets are built on studio lots and inside Many set pieces become part of on-location filming. This is why sometimes you will see streets being closed or buildings being used for filming have things built around them as additional set dressing. Adding to this you might even see a partial green screen added especially for period movies where studios have to account for the skyline and backdrops. This mix of set building and green screen has become pretty common both on location and in the studio for most films going from Avengers to The Irishman.

One of the main reasons why studios have moved away from doing fully practical sets is not only because of the amount of money costs to hire all these specialized workers to build those. There is also the reality that many production companies simply don’t want to put the money into sets that they will either have to store or destroy after the filming is over. It is not only a question of set building costs but also of self storage building costs to be able to house all the props and the set pieces they might want to keep. This is an issue not only because of cost but also because of land since many of the big studios find themselves in major cities where it is extremely difficult to find new viable land to build studio lots on. If you take this into account, it might become a lot easier to understand the popularity of things like Disney’s volume projected set and the general use of VFX to be able to save some of the costs that could go into building physical sets.

Stay in the loop
